Manipulating COTS behaviour
We are deciphering how signalling proteins mediate communication between COTS in different situations and how we can use this knowledge to control COTS behaviour to improve reef health.
Project leads: Bernard Degnan, Sandie Degnan, Conan Wang and David Craik
Biomimetic control of COTS
We are developing stable, environmentally-benign baits that mimic natural attractants uniquely released by COTS. These will be deployed as part of a scalable mitigation strategy.
Project leads: Conan Wang, David Craik, Bernard Degnan and Sandie Degnan
Spatio-temporal dynamics of outbreak spread
We are examining key hypotheses regarding the spatio-temporal dynamics of outbreaking populations to identify source locations using genomic and eDNA-enabled methodologies.
Project lead: Cynthia Riginos
Integrated pest management
We use models of reef ecosystems to test the ecological outcomes of COTS management decisions. Our work is used to plan control activates at the scale of the Great Barrier Reef.
